OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022, and since then, the artificial intelligence tool has become popular around the world, despite some controversy regarding user privacy and data protection.
Italy The company is concerned about the computer security of its citizens, and has therefore established the temporary blocking "with immediate effect" of ChatGPT for not respecting the data protection law, according to EFE. The Italian guarantor assured that it had opened an investigation and that the block will remain in place until the chatbot "do not respect the discipline of privacy".
This agency reported that ChatGPT suffered on March 20 a loss of data about its users, and in the provision, highlights "the lack of information to all stakeholders of those who collects OpenAI data" but "especially the absence of a legal basis that justifies the massive collection and retention of personal information".
Italy is not the only country concerned about privacy. Newtral indicates that regulators in Germany and France have contacted the Italian guarantor to investigate ChatGPT in case they should impose similar blocks to the one in Italy.
How is the situation in Spain?
In Spain, Vozpupuli contacted the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) to find out about the situation of the chatbot of OpenAI: "For the time being the Agency has not received any complaints about ChatGPT. However, we are closely monitoring these technological developments, which may have a significant impact on the rights of individuals, and therefore a future investigation cannot be ruled out in this regard".
This situation occurs with the pending appointment of the new president of Data Protection, likewise, Samuel Parra (privacy lawyer) states for the media quoted above that the blocking of ChatGPT "should be a decision taken jointly by the different European control authorities".
